I remember when I was younger, my mum would came home from work and read with my brother and I. On a Saturday morning, visiting the library was an adventure- we become little explorers. Our quest, included reading as much books as our little minds could endure. Mum would take us there religiously, every Saturday would hold such new stories. It was magical – we would create such fascinating stories…
Today, when I look to the past, I am so grateful to my mother for introducing us to storytelling;to books, to a skill of reading that would prove to be beneficial for the rest of our lives. Reading is not only a lifelong skill, it is also an ability to allow the mind to create wonderful and exciting stories. Many research has been done on the influence of reading at an early age and what impact this hasol on development .
So why is reading so important at an early age, such as infancy?
Well, I’m not an expert, and I don’t claim to be one at all. However, reading is extremely beneficial for a number of reasons. As an Educator myself I can certainly say that reading builds vocabulary, reading builds imagination, without reading we cannot comprehend effectively. It is a necessary skill, too often we find that children today do not read enough.
1. Reading assists with early word formation
2. Reading helps build vocabulary.
3. Reading creates an imagination.
4. Reading provided confidence.
There are many benefits to reading. It is important that we introduce books to children at an early age and make it part of bedtime routines.
My son has found a love for books, we sit and read together and I point to the pictures and call out the names. Well, he is too young to understand the context, but he certainly enjoys the colors. An alternative could also be to use hand puppets to tell stories.
